ALAMEDA — “Four Masters of Origami,” an exhibit of pieces by internationally known origami artists from the Bay Area, will be on view from Nov. 2 to Dec. 29 at K Gallery, Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2515 Blanding Ave.
The featured artists are Dr. Robert Lang, Dr. Bernard Peyton, Linda Mihara and Peter Engel.
An opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. A free workshop with Peyton and Engel will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. Materials will be provided.
Lang, 46, a physicist and former researcher for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has published major origami texts, has created more than 500 intricate origami models, and was recently profiled by author Susan Orlean in The New Yorker ( Feb. 19).
Peyton, a bear biologist, is renowned for his research on and conservation efforts for the Andean brown bear. He now devotes himself almost full-time to his nature-themed origami.
Mihara travels widely exhibiting her designs and promoting origami. Her family opened Paper Tree, which displays origami and sells origami supplies, in 1970, in San Francisco’s Japantown.
Berkeley architect Engel, who designed the installation for this exhibit, has developed many original origami works.
