UNION CITY — “Songs of Nostalgia” is the title of an upcoming concert at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
As a benefit for Japanese American Services of the East Bay, the talented Yoshie Yamada is coordinating this evening of song and music. She has gathered some special friends for this enchanting evening of popular Japanese and American tunes, not to be missed. Concert-goers will be invited to sit back and take a trip through familiar tunes of years past.
Amy Hatsushi and Annie Ong of O’Nami Taiko have joined the program this year.
Sandy Maruyama joins the singers this year along with Go Sasaki, a member of the San Francisco Nikkei Lions.
The audience will be treated to the vocal styling of sisters Grace Joo and Mitsuko Maruyama, who will be returning this year.
Also on hand will be the always entertaining and engaging Mark Takeda. Flutist Ermina Teramura will return this year, adding her unique touches to the evening concert.
Always delightful is the women’s choir group Petite Harmony 90, who will share many of their Japanese songs.
This annual concert is truly from the heart, with all the performers and the production crew donating their time and talents. SACBC also supports the evening with the use of its social hall. Last year the event raised over $1,000.
The funds raised by the concert will support JASEB’s programs and services for seniors in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, including its widely used caregiver registry program, where families can connect with caregivers who will assist a senior with housekeeping or personal care, and JASEB’s community homes, JASEB Home in Hayward and Channing Way House in Berkeley, where seniors who find it difficult to live on their own can reside with other seniors to benefit from the company of others and receive assistance with tasks such as cooking and laundry from caregivers they employ.
Although the waiting list for these homes is generally long, the Channing Way House currently has a space available. JASEB can be contacted for further information.
SACBC is located at 32975 Alvarado-Niles Rd. There will be a post-concert reception with the performers. Tickets for the show and the reception are available for a donation of $5. Tickets can be obtained by calling SACBC at (510) 471-2581 or JASEB at (510) 848-3560 or by sending the ticket donation to JASEB at 2126 Channing Way, Berkeley 94704.
